BLACK MUSICIANS, VAUXHALL GARDENS, VAUXHALL

The black musicians performing in England from the 1840s were African-American in the main, typically playing banjo, tambourine and bones.  However, there were an equal number of 'Black-face' acts at the time and this may well have been the case in this illustration. From a contemporary journal/newspaper, c,1840.
