Handbill advertising a performance by Mr and Mrs.J. Emmett and their dogs on March 22, 1862. The Bower Saloon was situated in Stangate Street attached to the Duke's Arms public house. In 1839 it was advertised as the New Bower Salon and hosted concerts with backdrops of large scenic illustrations including an entire Swiss village, however it closed down in the 1870s. The site became the warehouse for Price's Candles.
