OCCUPANT, CHARLIE CHAPLIN’S FORMER HOME, 3 POWNALL TERRACE
Mrs Reynolds after a surprise visit on 12th September by Charlie Chaplin to his childhood room at 3 Pownall Terrace, Kennington. At 10.30pm a knock on her attic room door woke Mrs Reynolds who thought it was a joke when told it was only Charlie Chaplin. She did not have a working lamp so matches were lit to view the room and couldn't offer coffee as her hearth was not working, plus apologised for the untidy state of the room. Chaplin sat on Mrs Reynold's bed remarking he'd often bump his head on the sloping ceilings above and recalled the rent 12 years earlier was 3s 6d a week
