COSTA COFFEE TRADE STAND

A promotional photograph for Costa Coffee of the stand at Hotelypia in London by Frank Manning. The firm was founded in Lambeth by brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971 where it established a roastery . The company grew to 39 shops and was purchased in 1995 by Whitbread for £19 million. By 2018 it had become the world's second largest coffee chain (after Starbucks) and was sold to Coca-Cola for £3.9 billion. The roastery in Old Paradise Street was also closed, ending the company's link with Lambeth. From a transparency dated 31st January 1978.

Manning Photographers was founded in the late 1940s by James Manning, who was later joined by his son Frank. The studio operated from 1952 onwards in Windmill Row, Kennington until 2022.
