The interior of St Mary-the-Less in Black Prince Road, Lambeth/ Kennington, looking east towards the altar. St Mary's was built 1827-1828 to the designs of Francis O Bedford at a cost of £7,634. Required to accommodate the growing population of Lambeth, it had pews for 600 parishioners and 'open free sittings' for 1,200. The church was demolished in 1967, having closed the previous year 'on union of benefices of St Anselm, Kennington Cross and St Mary-the-Less'. Manning Photographers was founded in the late 1940s by James Manning, who was later joined by his son Frank. The studio operated from 1952 onwards in Windmill Row, Kennington and continued until 2022. Their extensive photographic archive of approximately 500,000 images was gifted to Lambeth Archives by Frank & Sandra Manning.
