A Georgian terrace at Nos. 231-241 Kennington Lane before refurbishment. This terrace of houses was built c.1791 by Thomas Cope. No.231 was the home of Benjamin Gompertz F.R.S. (1779-1865), a noted mathematician and actuary, who lived there from 1811 until his death. Some of the houses were bought by Hayward Bros, pickle manufacturers as an extension to their adjacent premises in Montford Place.
