LAMBETH PALACE, LAMBETH

Lambeth Palace, residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Great Hall, which currently houses the world-famous Library with manuscripts dating back to the 9th century is on the right, and Laud's Tower seen behind the lawn to the north. Photographed using the 'wet plate' method by William Strudwick (1834-1910). Strudwick also worked as an architect, artist and writer. He lived for much of his life in Lambeth, but died in the Infirmary at Croydon Workhouse and was buried in the Paupers' Cemetery.
