A table overleaf lists occupation and earnings in the UK for 1883; the largest workforce is domestic staff with 1,951,000 employed on an average wage, including lodgings, of £37 p.a., followed by agricultural labourers totalling 1,882,000 on an average wage of £36 p.a. The lowest paid job appears to be shirt maker earning just £20 p.a. and the highest paid were the police on £65 p.a.
