FAWCETT MEMORIAL, VAUXHALL PARK, VAUXHALL

The memorial to Henry Fawcett in the centre of Vauxhall Park, demolished by the council in the early 1960's. Henry Fawcett, the blind Post-master General, who introduced the parcel post, postal orders and a scheme for small savings, also lobbied for public open spaces like the Epping Forest and New Forest. His house The Lawns, stood on the site of the park. Photograph from Kelly's Directory, c.1910.
