RECTORY HOUSE, LAMBETH ROAD, LAMBETH

Rectory House, No.214 Lambeth Road. Lambeth Rectory was the residence of the Rectors of St.Mary's Church, Lambeth. It was built in 1778 by William Head and Joseph Buckmaster on a piece of waste ground given for the purpose by Archbishop Cornwallis. The land was formerly the site of one of the manorial pounds. The building was extended eastwards in 1828-29 and has since been partially rebuilt after receiving bomb damage in World War II. Watercolour painting by G.Yates, 1825.
