FEMALE ORPHANAGE, WESTMINSTER BRIDGE ROAD, LAMBETH

Founded in 1758, by the magistrate Sir John Fieldings. The orphanage admitted girls between ages of 9 and 15 years. These girls were trained for domestic services and to read and write. During 1824 the premises were replaced by this new building, noted for its architectural elegance. In 1866 the orphanage moved to Beddington in Surrey. Front elevation from Westminster Bridge Road.
