Two views of Kennington Park. The top view looking south-west across the park, and the large red granite drinking fountain a gift of Felix Slade in 1862, shown below. It is said that Mr Slade, a resident in Walcot Place, was motivated to donate the fountain when he asked at the Albert Model Cottage for a glass of water and was charged 3d for tepid water in a small dirty glass: "He threw down the money in little wrath and a with determination that he would avenge himself for as he called it, 'the cruel imposition', and save others, if possible from a like wrong". The cost was 500 guineas, but today only the bowl mounted on four steps and inlaid with the Slade coat of arms has survived.
