Street parties to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth held at Gibbs Square and Benton's Lane. Hundreds of children enjoyed the teas and entertainments provided for them in the gaily decorated streets. Many of the Coronation Day parties finished early owing to the heavy rain.
