Venn Street, off Clapham High Street, was built over the network of alleyways and courts that made up the original Clapham Rectory Estate at the end of the nineteenth century, replacing many of the original cottages with Victorian terraces and shops of the sort seen here. The street was named after John Venn, rector of Holy Trinity church in the early 1800s and a member of the Clapham Sect. Once again it has undergone many changes in the middle and late 1900s, particularly in the stretch of road adjoining the High Street.
