The Duchess of York at the 1934 Centenary Festival, the founder's centenary year. The annual Festival was held on a day near to the founder's birthday of 19 June - and so was also known as Founder's Day. Visitors could tour the premises and meet staff and children as well as watch displays put on by the boys and girls. The chief guest at the centenary Festival was the Duchess of York, later to be Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The Duchess of York is shown being presented to members of staff by Rev. Tydeman Chilvers, President of the charity. Photo courtesy of the Keystone View Co.Original image and copyright held by Spurgeon's Child Care Trust.Ref: IV/243/1-6, SPd 3545
