An illustration from a Clapham newspaper giving details of how to construct a domestic air raid shelter in a garden using timbers, corrugated iron and soil. The government also offered Anderson shelters for the garden at a cost of £7, although they were offered free to low-income families. These were constructed from curved corrogated iron and placed in a excavated hole with soil back-filled on the roof. The Morrison shelter came later and was a robust steel structure for use inside the home.Part of the Lambeth Archives Home Front project 2005.
