GARDEN WITH AIR RAID SHELTER, STREATHAM: WORLD WAR II

Graham Gower playing on a swing adjacent to the remains of an Anderson air raid shelter in the back garden of the family home in Madeira Road, Streatham. The low fence was made from the shelter's bunk beds and the swing was recycled armament steel. The shelter was filled in immediately after the war and not finally demolished until mid-1950s.Digital image by kind permission of Graham Gower. From the Lambeth Archives Home Front project 2005.
