Diary entry recording 'The Flying Bombs' that fell on South London, beginning with the V1 - also known as 'Doodle Bugs' or 'Buzz' bombs - which were launched against London from Northern France in June 1944. Lucy Awdry's entry notes that they were called 'Hitler's Secret Weapon' and Londoners were advised to 'listen for the engine to stop & on that instant take cover.' Many people crowded into the shelters, however she writes that she slept in her bed 'only throwing the bed clothes over our heads whenever the engine stopped'.
