LIBERAL CLUB, SALTOUN ROAD, BRIXTON

The former Liberal Club in Saltoun Road, Brixton, was adapted from a pair of houses built c.1810, with the brick extension added in 1885 as Effra Public Hall. It became Brixton Chess Club from 1903-4 and then in 1914 the Brixton Christian Society. The building was also known as Raleigh Hall and became a public school. When photographed here in 1969, it had just closed as the Raleigh Hall Works.Photograph by M.D.Trace, dated February 1969.
