Originally established as the South Metropolitan Cemetery in 1837 to the designs of the company architect Sir William Tite, who is buried here along with other eminent people including; Mrs Beeton, Sir Henry Doulton, Baron Julius de Reuter, Charles Spurgeon and Sir Henry Tate.
