Children posing outside St John's School in Canterbury Road (now Canterbury Crescent), Brixton. It was established in 1853 and built at a cost of £1,600 to the designs of architect Benjamin Ferrey on land given by Benedict Angell. When the school opened it could accommodate 180 boys and 120 girls, plus 100 infants. Although badly damaged by bombs in World War II, it was reopened in 1947, although has since been converted into residential accommodation.A Johns postcard.
