The Costa Brothers' Coffee Company warehouse in Newport Street, Lambeth. The firm was founded in Lambeth by brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971 where it established a roastery . The company grew to 39 shops and was purchased in 1995 by Whitbread for £19 million. By 2018 it had become the world's second largest coffee chain (after Starbucks) and was sold to Coca-Cola for £3.9 billion. The roastery in Old Paradise Street was also closed, ending the company's link with Lambeth. Photograph dated October 1980.
