Artwork by Orticanoodles at the Cans Festival, Leake Street, Waterloo. Based in Milan, Orticanoodles (born c.1976) worked as a graphic designer in advertising and began stencilling street art in 2005. His main inspiration is the artist Shepard Fairey (aka Obey) and he mostly paints legally at organised events, remarking: "I want to do things properly, I don't care about vandalism, I don't like tags all over the place". He has been stopped by the police several times while pasting up posters: "it's not a big deal in Milan, the city is pretty well covered with posters and the police know street art. Once they ascertain posters do not convey political messages, they let you go". The Festival, which ran from 3rd-5th May, was organised by Pictures on Walls and Blank Expression with the permission of the British Rail Residuary Board and Department of Transport. It was the world's largest exhibition of stencilled street art, and featured over 40 international artists, attracting 30,000 visitors. Digital image dated 26th May 2008.
