JOHN WIMBLE TOMB, NORWOOD CEMETERY, WEST NORWOOD

Chest tomb of John Wimble (c.1797-1851) a merchant ship's captain who spent 34 years at sea. The carved decoration includes three of his ships; Maidstone, Florentia and London. His wife Mary Anne (d.1886) is also buried beneath and is described as 'sharing in some of his perils'. Photograph by Eric de Mare
