SCULPTURE, VAUXHALL BRIDGE

Vauxhall Bridge is adorned with 8 classically-draped female figures. The upstream sculptures are by Frederick Pomeroy and represent; Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering and Pottery. Alfred Drury sculpted the downstream figures and they depict; Education, Fine Art, Science, and Local Government which is illustrated here. The first Vauxhall bridge was built in 1816 and was replaced by the current one in 1906, which was designed by Sir Alexander Binnie.
