The interior staircase of Notre Dame Convent, Clapham Common South Side. In 1851 the Thornton estate was bought by an order of Belgian Catholic nuns and was run as a convent school. In 1939 the sisters left and the estate remained derelict until after the war when the Notre Dame council house estate was built on the site. The Thornton's Orangery survives and is noted for its Coade stone decoration.From a negative of the original postcard.
