POSTER, VAUXHALL GARDENS

POSTER, VAUXHALL GARDENS

A poster for Vauxhall Gardens listing the entertainments which include a concert by Signor Negri and 'Mr Ducrow and his magnificent stud of horses and ponies and the entire company of Astley's late theatre'. Ducrow was the son of Andrew who was known as the 'Father of British circus equestrianism' and became the proprietor of Astley's Amphitheatre. This burnt down three times, the final time in 1841 and Andrew Ducrow died soon after. The Rotunda was subsequently built in the grounds at Vauxhall for equestrian events.
