CIVIL DEFENCE VOLUNTEER: MRS CURSON, BARTLEY ROAD, BRIXTON

Application form from Mrs Alice Louise Curson (widow) of 150 Bartley Road, Brixton, offering assistance in a voluntary capacity to the Lambeth Civil Defence Association. She offers to find recruits, distribute literature and posters nearest to or throughout Streatham: "I know all the different roads and avenues. Any weather suits me providing I'm working in fresh air (have never been ill in my life). Have previously filled forms stating that billeting of children when necessary would suit me best of all. I could also help them with their homework and technical school lessons or hobbies. Am patient, in control or organising with children emigrating. Although this is my tenth year at the War Office [Stanmore] as a clerk, I have permission to leave because I am over forty. Influential officials could recommend my reliability and fitness."
