Portrait of Henry Fawcett who lived at The Lawn in South Lambeth Road, Vauxhall. Despite 'two stray shots from his father's gun when partridge shooting' causing instant blindness, Henry Fawcett became MP for Brighton and later Post-master General during Gladstone's 1880 administration. He introduced the parcel post, postal orders and a scheme for small savings. Fawcett had hoped his house would become one of the Parochial Free Libraries in Lambeth, however it was demolished along with adjacent dwellings to form Vauxhall Park.
