A photographic postcard showing an aerial view of La Retraite Convent and School in Clapham Park. Originally four large private houses including The Oaks, Springfield and Burlington House built by William Cooper in the mid 1800s, they were bought by the French Roman Catholic order of La Retraite sisters who linked them to found a school in the 1880s. One house was demolished to build a Chapel and dining hall in 1937 and further additions were made until the 1990s when the Convent was separated from the school.   Springfield was at one time the house of Dan Leno (1861 to 1904), one of the most famous and popular music hall artists of his time.
