Sandra Manning recalls the photoshoot was interrupted by a shout of ‘You can’t do that here’, to which Frank responded it was quite OK as he’d received the approval of the vicar, ‘I am the vicar’ came the response! Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2014 in England, Scotland and Wales, although in Northern Ireland it was not until 2020. Undated, c.1999

Manning Photographers was founded in the late 1940s by James Manning, who was later joined by his son Frank. The studio operated from 1952 onwards in Windmill Row, Kennington and continued until 2022.
