OBELISK, ST GEORGE’S ROAD, SOUTHWARK

OBELISK, ST GEORGE’S ROAD, SOUTHWARK

The Obelisk at the junction of St George's Road and Lambeth Road, Southwark, later relocated from Mary Harmsworth Park to it's original location nearby in St George's Circus. The Portland stone structure was designed by Robert Mylne (1733–1811) who as surveyor and architect of Blackfriars Bridge, created the obelisk to terminate the vista down Blackfriars Road from the bridge. Photograph dated 1961. From the Surrey Collection, ID: SP3/170/ST.G.R.1
