ADVERT FOR GENERAL MOTOR CAB CO., BRIXTON ROAD, KENNINGTON

An illustration from 'Home of the Motor Cab', published by the General Motor Cab Co Ltd, 1-3 Brixton Road, Kennington. The company pioneered the use of the taxi cab in England and in Kennington built the largest taxi cab garage, designed to accommodate 2,000 cabs. The text states that a year ago [1908] the 'taxi' was an unknown luxury to the average Londoner, but now the 'taxicab is fast becoming the most popular street vehicle in the world'.
