ARTWORKS, CANS FESTIVAL, LEAKE STREET, WATERLOO

Artworks in the public 'lounge' area of the Cans, Festival, Leake Street Waterloo. The skeleton is by artist Paul Insect, aka Paul Humphrey (born 1971), a London-based graphic designer who has also worked on 'Doctor Who'. He is influenced particularly by medical and scientific imagery and received acclaim through his pioneering of 'steampunk', a mixture of Gothic Victoriana and futuristic subjects. His entire 2006 'Bullion' show was bought by the artist/ collector Damien Hirst. The Festival, which ran from 3rd-5th May, was organised by Pictures on Walls and Blank Expression with the permission of the British Rail Residuary Board and Department of Transport. It was the world's largest exhibition of stencilled street art, and featured over 40 international artists, attracting 30,000 visitors. Digital image dated 3rd May 2008.
