Renumbering and renaming plan for Atherfold Road, Stockwell, formerly Athere Street and part of Hemberton Road. Occupants include: Edwin Barratt, E.Finch, S.W.Goosey, J.Croft, Emily Miller, A.Hipkins, G.M.Stanthorpe, Mrs H.Nightingale, H.J.Bustin, John P.Bland, Sidney Goosey and Mr Quick. In the relevant file, most of the residents of the Hemberton Road section objected to the name change via petition. Also listed as resident is Arthur Henderson (1863-1935) a leader of the Labour Party, the party's first minister in Lloyd George's war cabinet and winner of the 1934 Nobel Peace Prize. He was born in Glasgow, the illegitimate child of a domestic servant, and became active in trade union circles before being elected in 1903 as MP for Barnard Castle representing the Labour Representation Council.From the Street Renumbering/ Renaming Files, dated 23rd October 1906
