BABY’S DRESS: WORLD WAR II

BABY’S DRESS: WORLD WAR II

A baby's dress made immediately World War II by Mrs Hilda Gower of Streatham. From June 1941 onwards clothing was rationed and 'make do and mend' was encouraged, as was recycling fabric, and a range of 'utility' clothing made from cheap fabric was also introduced. This rationing and austerity continued for several years after the end of the war.Digital image by kind permission of Graham Gower. From the Lambeth Archives Home Front project 2005.
