BANDIT ARTWORK, CANS FESTIVAL, LEAKE STREET, WATERLOO

Artwork by the Belgium artist Bandit at the Cans Festival of street art in Waterloo. Now based in Spain, Bandit began to produce artwork in 2005 after being inspired by Banksy. Of this piece he remarks: "The Banksy 'Why don't you return my emails' came from the idea that a lot of people must email him and I can't imagine him having the time to reply to everyone (if to any), so everyone could kind of relate to the message there. Also I knew I was going to be in London and on his turf and I wanted to find an original way to address him personally and create a kind of dialogue on the walls. Nobody had ever done that before so I was very pleased that everyone liked it so much. After the Cans Festival someone turned it into 'Hey Boris why don't you return my emails' with a lot of care and attention to the original font of my letters, which I think is fantastic. It's nice to see that someone could use my piece and give it a second life".Digital image, 3rd May 2008. From the Graffiti Gallery recording Lambeth's urban art.
