CEDARS ROAD, CLAPHAM

CEDARS ROAD, CLAPHAM

No 17 Cedars Road, Clapham, photograph taken on February 14th 1966. Cedars Road was laid out on the site of The Cedars, a large mansion on Clapham Common North Side which was demolished in 1860. Detached villas, like the one seen here, lay on both sides of the road forming the Cedars Road Development, designed by the architect J.T.Knowles junior and built by Henry Harris in the 1860s. Following bomb damage to some of the original buildings, most of them were demolished and replaced by Cedars Road Estate, built by the London County Council in the 1960s.
