CHRIST CHURCH, BRIXTON ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

CHRIST CHURCH, BRIXTON ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

Interior of Christ Church, Brixton Road, looking towards the altar. The church was built on the site of the 1820s Holland Chapel, which had become dilapidated and over-crowded and was demolished in 1896. The design in the 'Byzantine-Romanesque' style was by Professor Beresford Pite and is considered unique in the Church of England with a large dome over the centre of a cruciform plan. It was dedicated in 1907 and is now a Grade II listed building.
