Dilapdated housing in Ethelm Street and Cornwall Road, Waterloo, prior to demolition and the construction of the Ethelm Street Estate. The photograph appears in the programme commemorating the official opening of the estate by the Archibishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Cosmo Gordon on the 24th June 1939. The estate was redeveloped by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners to the designs of Edward Armstrong FRIBA and is now bounded by Cornwall Road, Wootton Street, Windmill Street, Eaton Street and Broadwall.
