EXECUTION, KENNINGTON GALLOWS, KENNINGTON COMMON

EXECUTION, KENNINGTON GALLOWS, KENNINGTON COMMON

An article from the Gentleman's Magazine dated 7th April 1739, refering to an execution at the Kennington Common gallows of three highwaymen and a housebreaker. The body of one, a shoemaker, was 'rescued' from surgeons only to be hawked unsuccessfully 'at a very cheap rate' to Apothecaries, before being buried in St George's Fields.
