GREEK SECTION, NORWOOD CEMETERY, WEST NORWOOD

Tombs in the Greek section of Norwood Cemetery, West Norwood. An influx of refugees from Greece in 1822, after the Greek War of Independence, brought many merchants to London, several of whom leased ground in the unconsecrated area of the cemetery in 1842. St Stephen's chapel was later built here and the expanded area included many fine tombs for prominent members of the community. Photograph by Eric de Mare
