GRISSELL GRAVE, NORWOOD CEMETERY, WEST NORWOOD

De la Garde Grissell family tomb in Norwood Cemetery, West Norwood. Henry (1817-83) and Martin de la Garde Grissell (1820-1904) were proprietors of the Regent's Canal Ironworks. The firm constructed bridges for Robert Stephenson; gates and railings for Buckingham Palace and the British Museum; ironwork for the Royal Opera House, the Floral Hall and Houses of Parliament, as well as casting the earliest London letter boxes. Also in buried here is their father Thomas (c.1778-1847) who lived at Stockwell Common. Photograph by Eric de Mare
