Watercolour sketch from the diary of Henrietta Thornhill of a woman playing croquet. Henrietta was the orphan of Robert and May Thornhill, both of whom were killed in the Indian Mutiny at Cawnpore in 1857. She spent many years with her Aunt, Anne Beaufoy, at Caron Place in South Lambeth and the diary dates from 1864-79. She moved to Liston Road, Clapham in 1877 to live with her brother.
