Herbert Morrison (1888-1965), seen here at a council meeting with Mayor James William Darsley and his wife, Margaret Darsley, September 1950 . Born in Lambeth, Morrison was Minister of Transport in 1929, Home Secretary during World WarII and made a life peer, Lord Morrison of Lambeth, in 1959. The wartime Morrison shelters were named after him, as were Morrison Primary School and Morrison Terrace in Brixton Road.
