INTERIOR, TRADESCANTS’ HOUSE, SOUTH LAMBETH ROAD

The staircase of John Tradescant's house in South Lambeth Road. The house was notable for being the first museum to open to the fee-paying public. It was demolished and replaced by terraced housing in the 1880s, although commemorated by Tradescant Road.

From 'The History and Antiquities of Lambeth' by John Tanswell (with additions), 1858
