JAMES BURROUGHS LTD, DISTILLERS, MONTFORD PLACE, KENNINGTON

Part of the premises of James Burroughs Ltd, gin distillers in Montford Place, Kennington. Originally the building belonged to Haywards the pickle manufacturers, but was bomb-damaged in World War II. This is the distiller's third London site since the firm was established by James Burroughs, a chemist, in 1820 and is the home of Beefeater London Dry Gin. The gin is made from distilled grain spirit of about 98% pure alcohol, with added 'botanicals' - which include juniper, coriander, almond, angelica, liqurice, orris root and lemon peel.Photograph by M.D.Trace, dated October 1965.
