Sir James Clarke Lawrence was Alderman of the City of London, magistrate and a Sheriff of London and Middlesex before becoming MP for the Borough of Lambeth in 1865. Before 1832 the Borough of Lambeth had no representation in Parliament, except as part of County of Surrey. 'Electorial History of the Borough of Lambeth'.
