Joseph Capper Esq., lived for 25 years at the Horns Tavern, Kennington and was renowned for his eccentric behaviour. He was born in Cheshire and came to London becoming an apprentice to a grocer, before making astute business investments. At the Horns it is quoted that 'his maxim was never to join in general converstaion, but to interrupt it whenever he could say something ill natured'. When a Mr Townsend became the landlord he elected him as Steward of the parlour fire. Mr Capper died aged 77 on the 6th October 1804, leaving an estate of £30,000 to his poor relations.Lithograph published 22nd October 1804, by J.D.Montague.
