A proposal by the GLC for compulsory purchase orders to be issued to owners of houses in St Agnes Place, Kennington, enabling an extension to Kennington Park. The CPOs were granted by the Minister of Housing, however an accompanying letter states the responsibility for open spaces is now to be handed to the appropriate local council, 'Lambeth Council will become responsible for the purchase of your house and the rehousing of bona-fide tenants and the demolition'. This change of responsibilty led to years of protests and occupation of the houses by squatters. The site is now an open space, with new housing and a car park.
